A Look Back

2012 has been a huge year for our magic! Brandon and I were  just discussing all the things that have happened and I thought I should write them all down so we can look back and remember.
We went to 2 magic conventions this year: Magic at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC and Winter Carnival of Magic in Pigeon Forge, TN. We learned a lot as always and got to meet some fantastic magicians.
In April, actually got our first big paying corporate gig in Charlotte, NC where the company had a Vegas themed convention and we were the headliners. That was a lot of fun getting to perform with an Elvis impersonator and a cirque troupe!
That very next weekend we were able to do a theatre show in our hometown at the time, Columbia, SC. We got to raise money for a local elementary that was trying to build a new playground in honor of their PE teacher that had suddenly passed.
After I graduated high school, the summer brought a new challenge for me. I was to start assisting another magician by the name of Joseph Daniels. He does a spook show called The Dark Cabaret and it was a whole new kind of experience for me. Besides helping a magician perform something on stage during the South Carolina's Association of Magicians Gala Show, I had never even considered actually performing with another magician without Brandon. But I made it through as many shows as I possibly could without interfering with my first commitment with Brandon. The show actually just had it's last run in that location on December 22nd.
July brought the chance of a lifetime. We would be an in house show at a theatre in Myrtle Beach. One of the top tourist destinations in the country, the place we dreamed to live at. We had only about 3 weeks to move. Our opening night would be July 21st. We moved the 3 hours to our next step in life and we prepared hard. We knew it would be difficult competing with shows like Pirates Voyage and The Carolina Opry. But we were ready to take on the challenge. This one venue gave us many new contacts, more shows under our belt, and it threw us into the real world whether we were ready or not. We had bills to pay, we had to make a living.
On October 12, we had our last show there. It was bittersweet for sure. We knew that God was ready for us to move on when the time had come. But you live and you learn. It was definitely an experience we would never want to take back. And no, we didn't get kicked out. The theatre was closing so it was out of our control.
I actually ended up assisting another magician in October. We only had about an hour to practice with his Metamorphosis routine. His assistant hurt her ankle at last minute. I actually got to learn a brand new illusion for that show which I got to appear out of. We opened for the band Matisyahu while they were in Charleston, SC. It was definitely a completely different experience for me, that's for sure.
As the year began to wind down so did our shows. We did shows of course but nothing extra special.
The end of the year did bring one thing tho, we got engaged! He proposed on our 3 year anniversary, November 26, during a walk down on the beach. That night was truly magical for me.
So now that's what most of December has been, planning for our wedding next month.
Oh and I got a new wig and new costumes this year! Completely different look for me which was nice.
There you have it, our year of 2012.
Now we gotta go pack for our show tonight. I hope you all have a safe and fun rest of the year!
May 2013 be just as magical for you!
